The Department of Leadership and Instruction seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Professor of Sport Management. The College of Education at the University of West Georgia is doctoral granting and NCATE accredited, a recognized leader in preparing exemplary practitioners for a variety of roles. The College offers high level technological support, mentoring for new faculty, assistance seeking research funding, and opportunities to work with graduate students at all levels. Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Sport Management or related field from a regionally accredited institution by August 1, 2014.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Sport Management in both face-to-face and online environments.
  • Established or developing research agenda.
  • Established or developing record of service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with higher education teaching experience, practical experience in the sport industry, a demonstrated research agenda, demonstrated an innovative approach to program development/delivery and who demonstrate the ability to deliver contemporary, online classroom experiences. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to teach in personal wellness/activity. The ability to collaborate on doctoral dissertation committee work across the College of Education and to teach in the leisure activity program is desirable.

Job Summary:
Nine-Month Appointment with Possibility of Summer School. The position is for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology who will hold the title of “Katherine Smith Gunter Fellow” with the following responsibilities:
  • teach undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise physiology, human physiology, clinical exercise physiology, exercise prescription, exercise testing (laboratory techniques), and/or sport nutrition depending on expertise- potentially other courses as assigned.
  • establish a focused line of research and seek intramural/extramural funding to support research
  • direct/Participate on thesis/dissertation committees and conduct research in focus area
  • advise undergraduate and Master’s/Doctoral graduate students as assigned
  • exhibit collegiality and participate in Exercise Physiology specialization, Departmental, and University service and governance functions

General Information:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a major research University in the North Carolina state system with enrollment of over 29,000 students. The Department of Exercise and Sport Science supports an undergraduate program of over 600 undergraduate majors and 3 specialization tracks (Fitness Professional, Sport Administration, and Athletic Training); a graduate program of 60 students, consisting of Master of Arts program (Exercise Physiology, Sport Administration, Athletic Training), and a Doctoral program in Human Movement Science in cooperation with the UNC-CH School of Medicine. The Department houses three exercise physiology laboratories: the Exercise Science Teaching Laboratory, the Applied Physiology Laboratory, and the Integrative Exercise Oncology Laboratory. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Research in exercise physiology with emphasis in health and disease (Clinical Exercise Physiology) in one or more of the following areas: exercise oncology, exercise metabolism, health-physical fitness, cardiovascular physiology
  • Post-doctoral training and/or two years of experience in the university setting is desirable
  • Certification from any of the following professional organizations: American College of Sports Medicine, National Academy of Sports Medicine, and/or National Strength and Conditioning Association is desirable
  • An earned Doctorate degree with an emphasis in exercise physiology (human)
