Empowered by its location in the National Capital Region, Mason’s Sport Management Program (http://rht.gmu.edu/sport-management/) is dedicated to graduating exceptionally well-prepared professionals in an array of positions in the sport industry including sales, marketing, public relations, operations, facilities, and event management. Sport Management faculty also contribute to the college’s graduate program in Sport and Recreation Studies (http://rht.gmu.edu/sport-recreation-studies/).

Responsibilities:
Candidates may apply for either a tenure-line position (open rank) and/or a term (nontenure-track) position depending on the candidate’s specific configuration of credentials and talents. Term faculty responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to sport management governance, leadership, finance, marketing, and/or international perspectives; supervision of practica, internships and theses in sport management; and completing essential service activities (such as those related to student assessment and program development). Tenure-line faculty are also expected to maintain an active line of research and external funding, and provide expertise and scholarly leadership in one or more of the areas noted above, with an emphasis on bridging research and practice.

Qualifications:
Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in sport management or a closely related discipline; demonstrated teaching excellence; professional experience in a sport industry setting; and alignment with the college’s core values focused on diversity, collaboration, innovation, and ethical leadership. Candidates for a tenure-line position are also expected to be engaged in consequential research and scholarship, and have a publication record commensurate with academic rank and experience or demonstrate high-potential for achieving this pattern of scholarly productivity. Desired qualifications include demonstrated ability to secure external funding, teaching experience in online venues, and active involvement in a national/international sport management professional association.

The George Mason University, College of Education and Human Development, School of Recreation, Health and Tourism invite applications from highly qualified Adjunct Faculty to teach a diverse array of courses in the following areas of academic study and professional preparation: sport management, recreation, tourism and events management, athletic training, kinesiology, health promotion, and physical education.

Adjunct faculty are also needed to help staff courses in the Physical Activity and Lifetime Wellness program, which includes courses in aerobics, weight training, self-defense, yoga, and Pilates, along with a wide variety of courses focused on specific sports and recreational pursuits(go to http://rht.gmu.edu for more information on the full-range of programs and course offerings in Mason’s School of Recreation, Health and Tourism).

For all undergraduate courses, a master’s degree and appropriate content expertise/certifications are required. Preferred qualifications include university teaching experience and relevant practitioner-related experience.
