by C. H. Wilson, Jr. on September 19, 2013

The University of Memphis is once again offering the ‘Sport, Commerce, & Culture in the Global Marketplace’ Study Abroad program. We will be in Ireland and England July 14 – 29, 2014. This will be the fifteenth such program that we have led and will be run jointly by the Department of Health and Sport Sciences and Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis. I am writing to let you know that we have begun accepting applications at the trip webpage, which students can find here, and requesting that you share this trip information with any of your students who may be interested in joining us.

The program will be of interest to graduate and undergraduate students interested in sport management, international sport business, globalization, sociology of sport, culture, sport policy, and the general production and consumption of sport. The trip will include: (a) formal lectures delivered by guest scholars; (b) lectures from leading global executives along with daily field visits to multinational enterprises involved in the management of global sport products (e.g., Croke Park and the Gaelic Athletic Association, the National Aquatic Center and the Irish Sports Council, Aviva Stadium, Leinster Rugby Club, Na Fianna Gaelic Sports Club, Olympic Park, Lord’s Cricket Arena, Wimbledon, Chelsea FC, the English Premier League, Octagon Sports Agency, Arsenal FC); and (c) group discussions/debriefings led by University of Memphis faculty.

Students can earn 6 academic credits (2 courses) for participating in the program.

A major reason for the success of the program in previous years has been the diversity of students who have participated from different universities across North America. These have included Arkansas State University, Clemson University, University of Denver, George Washington University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Iowa, Laurentian University, Louisiana State University, University of Michigan, Middle Tennessee State University, Mount Union College, North Carolina State University, University of Northern Colorado, Purdue University, Quinnipiac University, Rice University, University of San Francisco, University of Tennessee, University of Toronto, Towson University, and University of Windsor.

Please have anybody who would like more information contact Dr. Brennan K. Berg at bberg@memphis.edu for more information.
