Job Summary: The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position as an assistant professor of sport coaching education in the School of Human Performance and Recreation in the College of Health.This nine-month, entry-level tenure-track faculty position requires teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in sport coaching, developing a scholarly line of inquiry related to the discipline, and advising students. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities: This tenure-track appointment at the assistant level involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in sport coaching education on the Gulf Park campus. A line of scholarly inquiry is required along with mentoring, research and service expectations. Applicants should seek external funding for research and maintain active memberships in professional organizations and associations.
Minimum Qualifications: 1) Earned doctorate (degree awarded by December 2014) in kinesiology, sport pedagogy, sport studies, sport psychology, sport sociology, physical education or closely related field
2) Demonstrated potential to produce scholarship, i.e., peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations and proposals for funded research
3) Demonstrated knowledge of professional development related to area of specialization
Preferred Qualifications: 1) Knowledge of the NASPE National Standards for Sport Coaches
2) Experience in advising students, publishing scholarly articles and pursuing external funding
3) Advanced knowledge of one or more of the following: strength and conditioning, sport skill analysis, sport pedagogy, coach development, coaching ethics, coach-athlete relationships, psychological foundation of coaching, sport sociology
4) Experience developing and delivering online instruction
