Assistant/Associate Professor Position in Exercise Science

The Department of Kinesiology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track, 10-month Assistant/Associate Professor position in Exercise Science to begin August 2014.

A research doctoral degree in Exercise Science or closely related field is required. Research expertise in either motor coordination/control/skill or neuromuscular/muscle physiology, and active involvement in the National Strength and Conditioning Association is strongly preferred. The candidate should have the ability to teach a range of courses in Exercise Science, including strength and conditioning, biomechanics, functional anatomy, and foundations of exercise science, and to assist students seeking certification as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists. Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations of students and experience in college teaching is highly desirable. To qualify for the rank of Associate Professor, the candidate must fully meet all Towson University criteria for this rank, including a minimum of six years in a full-time faculty tenure-track/tenured position. Applicants who are ABD will be considered, but appointment will be at the instructor rank, and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2015.

Primary Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include quality instruction primarily in a variety of undergraduate courses; research within the emphasis area; academic advising; University, community and professional service. The successful candidate will support interdisciplinary initiatives, assist with curriculum development and evaluation, and will seek external funding to support research activities.

Tenure-track appointment with an August 2014 starting date highly preferred. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Department of Kinesiology:

The Department of Kinesiology, located within the College of Health Professions, has 30 of full-time faculty and more than 1300 undergraduate majors in Physical Education/ Teacher Education, Athletic Training, Sport Management, and Exercise Science. The Department also offers a master’s degree in Kinesiology. In addition, the Department is responsible for oversight of the College of Health Professions Institute for Well-Being’s Wellness Center that serves over 300 members each year with its programs that support student education and community outreach. The Department also has a strong, positive relationship with the University’s Division of Athletics.
