Assistant Professor in Sport Management (half-time)

Job Summary:

The Department of Exercise & Sport Science advances the understanding of health, physical education, recreation and sport through diverse practices to improve life quality and promote healthful choices to attain successful living. It is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and actively collaborates cross-departmentally with the School of Education and the School of Leadership and Business.

The mission of the Exercise and Sport Science Department is to develop students through effective instruction, vocational experiences, community engagement and professional organizations so they can contribute to their profession, promote their field, and be ambassadors for Christ. Within the ESS program/major, students choose to fulfill one of three areas of concentration designed to prepare students for specific career opportunities: Sport Administration, Health and Wellness, and Physical Education; certificate in Coaching and endorsement in Health. The ESS department attempts to provide students with important managerial knowledge, but also critical psychosocial, sociocultural, and developmental knowledge about sport participation to allow them to understand and provide innovative leadership related to key issues in health, physical education, recreation and sport.

Primary Responsibilities:

Teach 12 hours (6 credits each semester) in courses such as sport law, organization and administration of sport, sport marketing, and other related areas (General Education Activity Courses, Wellness); productive scholarly research; provide service to the department, division and university.

Qualifications:

Candidates must 1) hold an earned master’s degree in Sport Management or related field, 2) demonstrate an active and growing Christian faith, 3) share a commitment to excellence in teaching within a Christ-centered academic community, 4) be willing to affirm the university’s mission and community standards (see www.judsonu.edu/about/) and 5) possess collaborative skills to work with colleagues across the Exercise and Sport Science Department and throughout the university.

East Stroudsburg University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position within the Department of Sport Management beginning August 2014. The Department of Sport Management offers a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Sport Management. This program prepares students for professional careers in the sports management industry. The program provides students with many options, with considerable flexibility in course selection, depending on interest and goals. Course offerings are extensive and there are opportunities for internships in professional sports, college athletics, amateur and Olympic athletics, and recreation sport. As part of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education ( PASSHE ), we offer competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package.

The successful candidate will teach courses in undergraduate and graduate sport management. Specifically in organization-administration and event management (facilities) (possible additional courses based on the department’s needs and the successful candidates qualifications and experiences). The successful candidate will also monitor and advise undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching may include distance learning and/or off campus teaching. This is a posting for consideration by PASSHE faculty with rights under Article 29 of the Agreement between APSCUF and PASSHE .

Required Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in sport management or related discipline. ABD candidates are encouraged to apply but must make clear their progress toward completion. Earned doctorate completion required prior to August 25, 2014. Experience in college teaching in sport management is required, A demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research. Ability to teach on-line courses.
